Most of us have bought something purely because of its packaging. A jar too pretty to throw away, a carton with a joke hidden under the flap, a bottle we kept long after it was empty. That’s good packaging design at work, and it’s rarely an accident.
Packaging is the first handshake. Before anyone reads a label or tries the product, the packaging has already made its pitch. Shape, material, color, typography, even the texture of the finish all tell customers what to expect inside. On a crowded shelf, that split second can decide whether a product gets picked up or passed over.
The unboxing is part of the product. Apple understood this early. Its slow-sliding lids turned opening a phone into a small ritual, and an entire genre of unboxing videos followed. The lesson for designers wasn’t simply minimalism. It was that packaging can become an experience people remember and talk about.
The best work goes even further. Some designers engineer clever structures, some tell a whole story with a single visual gag, and others rethink materials so the packaging is as sustainable as it is striking. What they all share is wit and a real understanding of the product they’re wrapping.
We’ve rounded up 35 of our favorites. These creative packaging designs from around the world are so clever, they practically sell themselves. Scroll on and see which ones you’d buy just for the box.
