When was the last time you actually paid attention to a pre-flight safety demonstration? Virgin America turned this typically boring instruction reel into a viral pop-culture moment — getting millions of people to watch a flight safety video without even stepping on a plane.
To pull it off, the airline partnered with American director Jon M. Chu (Step Up 2, Step Up 3D) along with top choreographers, producers, and dance stars. A talented cast of 36 dancers spent 26 hours on set, performing 14 different dance styles ranging from Broadway and contemporary to tango, b-boy, and breakdance.
The result? A big-budget safety dance video that captured the internet’s attention, racking up millions of YouTube views and hundreds of thousands of social shares — all while reminding people to fasten their seat belts.
