This Guy Uses Forced Perspective To Capture Awesome Photos With Toy Superheroes

Malaysian photographer and toy collector Wire Hon doesn’t need a studio, a green screen, or a single line of code to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Iron Man, Hulk, and Deadpool. Armed with nothing more than a smartphone, a few household props, and a razor-sharp eye for forced perspective, he shrinks himself down (or sizes his action figures up) to build scenes so convincing you’ll swear the superheroes moved in next door.

It all comes down to one thing: the angle. Forced perspective plays on how our eyes judge scale and distance. Put a small object right up against the lens, a person far behind it, and suddenly the two share the same world. It’s the trick behind every tourist “holding up” the Leaning Tower of Pisa, only Wire Hon drags it miles past the postcard cliché, with dramatic low angles, dreamy out-of-focus foregrounds, and comic timing most directors would envy.

Storytelling is what separates a gimmick from a portfolio. Wire Hon never settles for the flat “look, same size” gag. Superman flinches at a pair of red undies waved his way on laundry day. Batman and Deadpool shuffle off to mop the floors, buckets in tow. Hulk squares up to a shirtless, thoroughly unbothered Wire Hon in an empty hallway. Every frame is blocked like a film still and timed like a punchline, clearly the work of someone who grew up loving these characters.

And the real lesson here is one of pure craft: no CGI, no compositing, just camera height, millimeter-perfect placement, and the patience to belly-flop onto a driveway for the right eyeline. Scroll down for our favorites, and see how a phone camera and a good idea beat a special-effects budget every time.
