To raise awareness of elderly loneliness during the holiday season, German supermarket Edeka and agency Jung Von Matt have come up with the most heartbreaking Christmas ad of the year. Directed by Alex Feil at Tempomedia, the spot shows a lonely grandfather wanting to be with his family during Christmas. Since they’re always “too busy” and unable to find time from their hectic schedule, he comes up with a shocking idea to bring them all together. Watch below.
The film has received over 34 million views in just 9 days, but not without controversy. While the majority say they were overwhelmed with tears, a few have described the film as too dark for a Christmas ad.
