“Break Free” is a spec ad film by Eugen Merher, a 26-year-old student at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Germany. It tells the story of 79-year old Karl, a former marathon runner locked up in a lifeless nursing home. One evening he discovers his old Adidas running shoes and decides to take a run in his old marathon outfit, but ends up being stopped and restrained by nurses.
Karl’s repeated attempts to escape ignite a spark of life in the residents of the home who decide to support him. Watch below for more.
Eugen told Huffington Post that he “tried sending the film to [Adidas’] communications department but they didn’t really react.” The film has received over 780,000 views ever since it was uploaded on YouTube three weeks back.
Adidas probably missed the bus with this one. All we can say is, nice work, Eugen. The background music was composed by Alexander Wolf David. Share this post and voice your views in the comments below.
