A Turkish company called Pugedon has introduced a vending machine in Istanbul that accepts plastic bottles for recycling and dispenses food and water for stray dogs in return. That’s right, it helps protect the environment as well as provides sustenance to animals. We’d like to use the phrase “killing two birds with one stone”, but hey, this is a pro-animal post. Check it out below.
The machine operates at zero-cost to the city and the recycled bottles cover the expenses of the food. Istanbul is home to approximately 150,000 stray dogs and cats and not everyone is an animal lover. Some welcome their company while others consider them to be sources of disease and danger. What’s your take on this? Do these machines encourage the presence of more stray animals or do the animal welfare + environmental benefits far outweigh the cons?
