Photoshop Can Now Make Impossible Selections In ONE Click, What A Time To Be Alive!

Selecting intricate details like hair, fur, or fine objects has always been one of the biggest challenges in Photoshop. While previous selection tools did a decent job, they often struggled with complex edges—until now. Adobe’s latest update introduces a major leap in selection and masking technology, making it easier than ever to cut out even the most intricate subjects with a single click.

In this tutorial, Photoshop instructor Unmesh Dinda from PiXimperfect takes a deep dive into the new Select Subject (Cloud) and Remove Background features, comparing them to the older versions and testing them across different subjects and backgrounds. You’ll see how Photoshop now handles notoriously difficult selections—bicycle spokes, nets, and wispy hair—with remarkable accuracy. But is it perfect?

Watch below and see for yourself how this new selection technology changes the game.

I remember times, 10 years ago when i was a Design student, people would joke about “but isn’t Photoshop just pressing a button” to do what you want?

And now here we are. We can select things with just a button. We can change colors just pressing a button. We can replace a background just pressing a button. We can create anything by typing and pressing OK. We can clear wires an unwanted things by pressing a button.

The manual skill isn’t needed anymore in Photoshop. The best photoshoppers will be the ones with creativity.

I’ve been using Photoshop for over 30 years, and in that time, I’ve seen many iterations of Adobe’s object selection tools, often accompanied by big promises, but they frequently fell short in practice.

However, I just tried the new beta version, and I have to say (as much as I hate this term), it’s absolutely mind-blowing. Part of my role is to clip high-resolution stock photos of people daily. Typically, I start with “Select Subject,” but I always need to spend additional time refining the selection with paths and other tools. Depending on complexity, this process can take anywhere from 10 – 30 minutes. Still a lot better than 10-20 years ago.

With this new update, it’s as simple as clicking “Select Subject” and waiting for it to process—no additional tweaking required (at least on this first image I tested). The accuracy and efficiency are… (get ready to cringe)… game-changing.

EDIT – just tried it on another image, I should say that it’s not perfect, but still a helluva lot better.
