12 Clever Charts That Highlight The Importance Of Color

Color is one of the most powerful tools in visual communication—and UK-based designer and illustrator Stephen Wildish shows just how much of a difference it can make, using sharp wit and a minimalist touch. In this playful series of infographics, he explores how a simple color change can completely shift what we see, what we feel, and what something seems to be.

The visuals are light and humorous, but there’s a smart idea running through all of them. What looks like a quick joke at first glance often reveals something deeper about how we interpret images. A single color swap can flip the meaning entirely, changing not just the tone, but how we identify the object itself. Wildish pulls this off with simple shapes, clever thinking, and an eye for how much context color really carries.

Originally part of his weekly ‘Friday Project’ series, these charts are now part of a larger body of work that’s been featured in his book titled Chartography: The Weird and Wonderful World of Infographics available on Amazon. Scroll down to see 12 of our favorites from the series.
