Nikola Čuljić is a self-taught graphic designer, painter and illustrator from Serbia. He started off by drawing portraits three years back, but soon realised that wasn’t his forte. He decided to draw something different, something ‘real’. Using colored pencils, markers and pastel 3D he started creating illustrations that look like 3D objects from a certain angle. This technique of using realistic imagery to create an optical illusion of three-dimensional depth is known as trompe l’oeil (French for “trick of the eye”).
