80% of all jobs in the next decade will require technical skills. While 66% of 4th grade girls say they like science and math, only 18% of all college engineering majors are female. These statistics highlight and confirm society’s tendency to discourage girls from pursuing technical subjects, a disturbing trend that has resulted in women holding less than 25% of STEM jobs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in the US.
Which is why Verizon and Makers.com, together with agency AKQA, are working together towards changing this gender bias with the “Inspire Her Mind” campaign. Their new ad has received more than 2.7 million views so far. Check it out below.
We’re looking at a huge disproportionate gender ratio in technical jobs if we don’t work towards eradicating this primitive mindset asap. Which is what makes this initiative by Verizon even more crucial and commendable.
