This is one of those zero-cost viral ideas you wish you’d thought of. Miele is a German manufacturer of high-end domestic appliances. To promote the “monster suction” of their new Miele S8 vacuum cleaner, they created an online video showing a cleverly placed billboard (digitally inserted) on top of a well-known tunnel in Slovakia. They morphed the entry of the tunnel into a pipe of the Miele S8 with cars and trucks entering (or being “sucked”) into the tunnel thereby creating an illusion of a great outdoor ad. The video went viral with viewers praising the idea and discussing wether it was real or not. What’s interesting to note is how the zero-cost idea effectively communicated the benefit of the product. Mayer/McCann Erickson is the agency behind this campaign.
